OUR HISTORY: We began as an idea for something to be called Heart of England Way and a steering committee was formed in 1977. The Alcester Civic Society and a number of Rambling Clubs were involved. Today, founding members John Watts and Brian Keates are still serving the interests of users and members.
The Heart of England Way Association was formed in 1982 and soon after that the original route was recognised by Warwickshire County Council, Staffordshire and Gloucestershire County Councils. The NFU gave support.
Our membership has historically encompassed the various rambling and walking groups along the route and also parish and district councils. A number of “B & B” establishments have joined to promote their facilities to walkers. Today we have a much reduced “group” membership but a healthy personal membership and support.
OBJECTIVES for the FUTURE continue to be what was set out for in 1977! This is the development of walking routes associated with the original Heart of England Way, as well as a walks programme, and information to promote walking and the routes
