The Heart of England Way Association officially celebratd 25 years of working to create and keep user friendly the 100 miles Heart of England Way, and the 26 mile Arden Way last year - 2007. Into 2008 we have already begun on our exciting plan to make these routes as stile free as possible. In Warwickshire the County Council have been making much progress in installation of gates and kissing gates. Our view is the same as the County Councils - to make walking accessible yet protect the countryside and the farmer's needs as well. Also we have the propect of NEW WAY MARKERS for all of (the) Heart of England Way and The Arden Way - following the new directive in Warwickshire CC about public right of way signage. The new markers will both carry the name of the route, the logo, and the web site - as well as a recognition of being devised and operated by ourselves. To this end we will unfortunately loose the link with Heart of England Way on The Arden Way markers - but the opportunity to brand strongly is not to be missed. See the new Heart of Engalnd Way Mark in the right hand column

One of our plans is close to fruition - a new guide for The Arden Way, and also we have progress with the installation of benches and hopefully soon an interpretation panel at Meriden - the real Heart of England. We also have a new WEB SITE for The Arden Way to help give it prominent identity.

What do you enjoy most when you go for a walk? I like to look out for the variety of sights and also the sites we encounter such as St Chad's Lichfield, Throckmorton's Historic houses and Shakespeare's Arden countryside and villages. The Heart of England Way and The Arden Way carry us along a vista of sights both in the Town and the Country. The best thing of all is of course not getting lost and being able to find the route!

You can be assured that membership of the Heart of England Way Association will enable you to support the work of fellow members, and ensure we can continue to keep the 126 miles open and waymarked. You can also join in on our walks programme - if you wish and like me as someone who likes a good walk in our fantastic backyard of Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Gloucestershire, you will not be disappointed!

Our LIFE-BLOOD is support from MEMBERS SUBSCRIPTIONS  and the grants we can obtian from time to time. For just £6 a year you can support one of England's best walk routes and keep it well way marked.

I am also a WARDEN – that was how I got involved – freely giving time to walk and see that a section of the Heart of England Way is in good condition and easy to follow.

Our Buy At offers a fantastic opportunity for supporters (and not just members) to buy from favourite web based "e-tailers" - we get a commission on everything you buy and you get a good deal. Please consider using the buy@ site! Click through the links in our site.

I look forward to seeing you on a walk some time

Best Regards, Graham Rothery, Chairman
